The Royal Louis was a First-rate ship of the line of the French Royal Navy.

She was burnt in 1742, probably the result of a sabotage.

It was rumoured that Rebel leader, Chris Holmes, was the mastermind of the burning. He was beheaded when he was caught later that year.
