A number of ships of the French Navy have borne the name Orient. Among them :

  • The 80-gun ship of the line Orient (launched 1756 at Lorient) originally built for the French East India Company, and purchased for the French Navy in May 1759 - in 1778 (see illustration) she was reduced to a 74-gun Second Rate (Vaisseau du 2e Rang) and was wrecked near Trincomalee in the East Indies in February 1782.
  • The 118-gun ship of the line Orient (launched 1791 at Toulon) originally named Dauphin Royal, renamed Sans Culotte in September 1792 and then Orient in May 1795 - flagship of the French fleet at the Battle of the Nile.
