French hardcore

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

French hardcore or just Frenchcore is a style of Gabber, that like its name suggests developed in France (although it should be said that its main presence is online) in mid 2000s. Frenchcore is influenced by Breakcore, where it uses distorted breakbeats over the top a 4 to the floor bassdrum, and is likely to be around 200-250 bmp. The other most distinguishable characteristic of French hardcore is the sound of the bassdrum, which although is less distorted sounding then other Gabber, but has more of a reverbing bass sound which (when played at high volumes) gives the effect of the room shaking. The bassdrum is likely to be effected by a low pass filter, whose frequency is risen and lowered giving a growing and shrinking effect. More abrasive tracks sometimes use Powernoise style rhythmic noise. Tracks regularly sound like they double or even quadruple the tempo to Speedcore tempo and jump back in matter of seconds to create a more hetic feel. The mood of French hardcore is less dark, and more ravey sound then other forms of gabber.
