French constitutional referendum, 1870

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On April 20, 1870, 11 million electors were called to approve the Senatus-Consulte of April 20, 1870 and reaffirm the status of the Second French Empire, which had become a constitutional monarchy. 18.68% of voters abstained. The result was resoundingly in favor of the empire. However, France's defeat in the Franco-Prussian War caused the empire to be abolished later that year.
