Freeport High School is a public high school in Freeport, Maine for students in grades 9-12 residing in the towns of Freeport and Pownal. Freeport High School is one of four schools in the Freeport Public School District; the others being Mast Landing School, Morse Street School, and Freeport Middle School.

The current Principal at Freeport High School is Mark Tinkham. He replaced principal Tom Edwards who retired after the 2005-2006 school year.

The student population at Freeport High School for the 2006-2007 school year is approximately 415 students.

In an effort to reduce grade inflation, Freeport High has changed its grading policy, increasing the number grade necessary to pass.

As with other districts in the Greater Portland area, the SAT scores of Freeport High School were significantly higher than the State Average, coming in 10th in the state for Math and Reading, and 11th in Writing.

In the Mathematics section, Freeport students had an average score of 485, tying with York High School. In the Reading section, Freeport students had an average score of 492, tying with Scarborough High School. Finally, in the writing section, Freeport students received an average score of 483. [1]

Freeport High School has a rich fine arts program, ranging from the visual arts to drama, chorus, and band. The school also has several fine-art based extra-cirricular activities. The arts program is accomidating to anyone who is interested, weather it be visual, musical, or you are just searching for a jump start in a art historical field.

Freeport High School is one of only two schools in the State that consistently enters student written one-act plays into the Maine Principal's Association's annual drama festival.

In 2008, the play Conversations In A Box, a piece by FHS Senior Kevin Henthorn won the Class B competition at the 2008 Regional Maine Drama Festival, hosted at Falmouth High School

Despite having a lower student population than many nearby high schools, Freeport High School's athletic teams (The Freeport Falcons) still manage to be high-quality performers.

In 2006, Freeport High School won 5 of the 6 possible Class C Ski State Titles (the only title not won was the boys' Nordic title)

They also have a very strong boys lacrosse team and in 2006 gave the powerhouse, Yarmouth, a good scare. It is lead by Varsity Coach Carpentier, new as of 2006. They beat both Deering and Waynflete in the 2008 season and gave Falmouth a run for their money in the last game of the regular season.

  • Football Team: went 9-0 in 2007
  • Boys' Soccer: Lost in 2007 Western Maine Class B final to Falmouth 2-1 in overtime.
  • Boys' Basketball: Lost in 2008 Western Maine Class B Final to Cape Elizabeth 57-50.
  • Girls' Cross-Country Running; 4-time Class C State Champions 2003-2006 (In 2005, Freeport High School placed first out of all girls' cross country teams in Maine, in all classes.) The team also won the Western Maine Conference Championship in 2006, beating out favored Cape Elizabeth.
  • Girls' Skiing; 2006 Western Maine Conference Champions (Nordic) and Class C State Champions (In 2006, Freeport High School girls' placed first out of all Maine Schools at the Sassi Memorial.) The girls combined skiing team has won Class C State Champions in 2005, 2006, and 2008.
  • East Maine Conference Synchronized Swimming Champions
  • Boys' Alpine Skiing 2002, 2003, 2006 Class C State Champions
  • Boys' Combined Skiing 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2006 Class C State Champions (2008 Runner Ups)
