FreeVMS is an open source free software clone — licensed under the terms of the GPL— of the computer operating system VMS. As of 2006, the project was very much in the early stages of development. The latest version is 0.3.10.

It consists of a kernel (planned to be POSIX-compliant) and a DCL command line interpreter.

[edit] Architecture

Traditional VMS systems run only on VAX, Alpha and Itanium processors. One of the design goals of FreeVMS is to provide support of i386 architecture.
