[edit] Playing career
Sjöström is a big but speedy forward who plays an intensive physical game. He produced a lot of points in his junior years but at the senior level he has not had the same success. He started his elite career playing for Frölunda HC in Swedish Elitserien and after being drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft with their first pick, 11th overall, he went overseas and played for the Calgary Hitmen in the WHL. It was not until the 2003-04 season that Sjöström got to play with the Coyotes scoring 13 points in 57 games in his first NHL season.[1]

On February 26, 2008 he was traded to the New York Rangers along with David LeNeveu and Josh Gratton for Marcel Hossa and Al Montoya. Sjöström plays on the Rangers' fourth line. On March 2, 2008, he scored his first goal as a Ranger, beating Antero Nittymaki of the Philadelphia Flyers, with assists from Blair Betts and Marek Malík.[3]
