Frederick Taylor University

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Frederick Taylor University is an unaccredited private institution of higher learning located in Moraga, California, in Contra Costa County. It was established in 1994 to cater to mature adult learners, 20 years or older.[1]

The University offers undergraduate and graduate distance education programs in business, leading to either a bachelors or master's degree.[2] Students can enroll at any time throughout the year. [3]

Mansour Saki is the institution's president.[1]

Frederick Taylor International University, which was incorporated in Hawaii but operated in California (with an address in Moraga[4]) and which was also headed by Mansour Saki, was closed by court order in Hawaii in 2001.[5].

FTU is not accredited by any accreditation body recognized by US education authorities.[6] The use of unaccredited degree titles is legally restricted or illegal in some jurisdictions.[7] Jurisdictions that have restricted or made illegal the use of credentials from unaccredited schools include Oregon [8][9], Michigan[10], Maine[11], North Dakota[9]New Jersey[9], Washington[8][12], Nevada[8], Illinois[8], Indiana[8], and Texas.[13]. Many other states are also considering restrictions on unaccredited degree use in order to help prevent fraud. [14]

In 1994, FTU was authorized by California Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE) to award degrees[15] [16]. The BPPVE no longer exists due to a sunset clause in the law that created it. BPPVE authorization should not be confused with accreditation. Frederick Taylor University has signed a voluntary agreement with the Department of Consumer Affairs that applies to its operation until new legislation addressing postsecondary education is in place.[17]
