Frederick Bodmer

Frederick Bodmer (actually Friedrich Bodmer; * 1893 or 1894; † after 1955) was a Swiss philologist and author of the very popular book The Loom of Language.

He wrote in 1924 his PhD thesis at University of Zurich to the topic Studies about a dialog in Nathan of Lessing (Studien zum Dialog in Lessings Nathan). After that he taught in Europe and at University of Cape Town. Later he held a position within the Department of Modern Languages at MIT. His position at MIT was succeeded by Noam Chomsky in 1955.
