[edit] Campus Life
Frederica Academy provides courses in all aspects of academics, including English, Literature, Mathematics, Languages, History, Art, Computer Sciences, and Science, along with numerous extracurricular activities performed both at the school and abroad. Frederica also provides many athletic activities such as: soccer, tennis, golf, volleyball, basketball, cross country, crew and baseball.
Founded in 1970, Frederica has a long history of educating students from the Golden Isles of Georgia. Originally, the school was held in the old Brunswick Hospital on the mainland while construction of today's campus was taking place on St. Simons. The original buildings still hold the lower and middle schools.
In 2004, construction finished on the state-of-the-art new upper school building, Lovick P. Corn Hall. The new classroom building has the potential to accommodate 100 more students as the school grows. Currently, the average class size is around 30 students; however, it can be as small as the Class of 2004 with 8 students or the Class of 2005's 27 students.
Frederica offers a number of extra-curricular programs that the majority of students become involved in. Those include sports, as mentioned earlier, and also academic programs like Model United Nations. In 2003, Frederica competed in the National High School Model United Nations in New York City. The competition matched schools from not only the US but also several other nations. Frederica placed second in the nation - and was one of the smallest teams to compete.
Academics are always at the forefront of the student's minds. The students are very competitive and understand the value of the Frederica Academy diploma. Students graduate to attend schools all around the country - University of Georgia, Cornell University, University of Southern California, Wake Forest, University of the South, New York University, and College of Charleston. SAT and ACT scores are not the highest in the country and students also have a solid GPA - taking majority AP and Honors level courses.
