[edit] History
Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers began in Wichita, Kansas. Bill and Randy Simon and Scott Redler, the founders, have stated that part of the inspiration came from Ted Drewes Frozen Custard in Saint Louis, Missouri.[1] Orders are typically placed by the customer at the walk-up counter and picked up once they are ready.[2] Known for serving both dessert items and hamburgers, it rapidly expanded from one location to many. Soon after finding success in Wichita, it embarked on an aggressive franchise plan beginning in Hutchinson, Kansas.[3] The franchising was opened both to other states and up to 99 restaurants in 2004.[4] The franchise has grown to over 10 restaurants in 4 states and has won an award for it's growth as a privately held company.[5]
[edit] Menu
The Freddy's food menu is based mainly off of the "Freddy's Steakburger," which is a burger made from a lean steak. Patties are mashed into a flat circle and a secret seasoning is added. Varieties include an original, which comes with mustard, onion, and pickle, a "California style" burger, which comes with onion, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and "Freddy's sauce" (a marketing term for Thousand Island dressing), and a kid burger, which comes with ketchup and pickle. All are served on a toasted bun.
The menu also includes the "Burgerdog" which is a hot dog split in half on top of a steakburger.
Freddy's also serves hot dogs dressed "Chicago style," which includes relish, mustard, pickle, tomato, onion, celery salt, and sport peppers; chili-dog, which comes with chili, cheese, and onions; or as you like it. Freddy's menu also includes a chicken breast sandwich, onion rings, chicken tenders, and most meals come with seasoned shoe-string fries.
In addition to food, Freddy's has gained fame for their concretes made with custard and other dessert items.[6][7]

- Many believe that the name "Freddy" is simply a marketing device, but Freddy is in fact the elderly founder of the chain. On occasion, Freddy visits some of the restaurants.[8]
- Satirist Mark Garrison is known to frequent the Selma, Texas location just outside of San Antonio.
