Fred Schwengel

Frederick Delbert Schwengel (May 28, 1906 - April 1, 1993) was a U.S. Representative from Iowa.

Born on a farm near Sheffield, Iowa, Schwengel attended the rural schools in West Fork Township and high schools in Chapin and Sheffield, Iowa. He graduated from Northeast Missouri Teachers College at Kirksville, 1930. He attended Iowa University graduate school 1933-1935. Athletic coach and instructor of history and political science in public schools of Shelbina and Kirksville, Missouri from 1930 to 1937. He engaged in the insurance business in Davenport, Iowa from 1937 to 1954. He served in the Missouri National Guard 1929-1936. He served as member of the State house of representatives 1945-1955. He served as member of the Iowa Development Commission from 1949 to 1955.

Schwengel was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-fourth and to the four succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1955-January 3, 1965). He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the Eighty-ninth Congress in 1964.

Schwengel was elected as a Republican to the Ninetieth and to the two succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1967-January 3, 1973). He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the Ninety-third Congress in 1972. Founder and president, Capitol Historical Society from 1962 to 1993. Founder and president, Republican Heritage Foundation. He died on April 1, 1993, in Arlington, Virginia.
