[edit] Biography
Fred was born in Philadelphia and raised in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Bishop Shanahan High School and Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he earned a degree in Jazz Guitar. [2]
He is married to Elena Mascherino whose voice can be heard singing back-up vocals on the closing song of Taking Back Sunday album Louder Now, "I'll Let You Live". Fred has three children: a son named Scout and two daughters, Lily and Evie Jane. Evie Jane was born Wednesday, May 23, 2007[3]. He named two of his guitars Scout and Lily.
[edit] Career
[edit] Brody
From 1992 to 1999, Mascherino was in a band named Brody, whose members included Billy Warburton, Brodie Ruland, Keith Cucuzza, and Bill Loughin. It was during this time that he met Eddie Reyes, then of Clockwise[4]. Brody released an EP on Creep Records and a full-length CD on Harvcore records. The band was also featured on several compilations, including Blackout! Records' "Punk Rock Jukebox."
[edit] Breaking Pangaea
In 2000, after Brody broke up, Mascherino became lead singer and guitarist for Breaking Pangaea, a band from Philadelphia. Other members included drummer Will Noon, and bassist Clint Stelfox. They were taken on by Florida label Undecided Records, and produced EP "Take Apart the Words" and full-length CD "A Cannon to a Whisper".
In May 2003, Breaking Pangaea released an EP entitled "Phoenix" through Equal Vision Records.
In 2004, the members of Breaking Pangaea met up again and played to a sold out crowd at the First Unitarian Church in Philly. From the stage, Mascherino told the crowd it wouldn't be their last show.[5]
[edit] Taking Back Sunday
Mascherino joined Taking Back Sunday in 2003, replacing original guitarist/singer John Nolan after Nolan left the band with bassist Shaun Cooper to pursue different musical interests with Straylight Run.
Fred's main guitar is a Gibson SG Special, while his main amp consists of a Marshall JCM 800 2203 100-watt head, and a Marshall 1960A cabinet with Celestion Greenback speakers. He notes that the cabinet accounts for 75% of his sound [6].
During the 2006 Taste of Chaos tour (for which Taking Back Sunday was headlining) Fred returned home due to family commitments. His bandmates were forced to continue to without him, supported onstage by members of Saosin, Anti-Flag and Underoath. It was later revealed that Fred's family commitments were in regard to his mother-in-law's battle with cancer.[7]
In 2007 Fred was also not at the Jacksonville, FL show of the Projekt Revolution tour, as well as a club show they did on the side. At the show he was said to be gone for personal reasons. On August 12, he posted a blog on Myspace.com revealing that his absence was because of his brother's wedding.
On October 4 it was announced that Fred will be leaving the band to work on his solo project, The Color Fred. Taking Back Sunday is currently working on their next album.

There's No Crying in Rock and Roll

We just wanted you to know, the posts that are saying that its sad news but there is still new music coming are echoing how we are feeling. This shouldn't be the worst day in anyone's life! Okay, enough from us. We appreciate and understand that this is emotional news. We think PJ put it best, "one door closes and another opens."
[edit] The Color Fred
The Color Fred is Mascherino's solo project:
“ | I would like to introduce my side project. I'm calling it The Color Fred, a name that won by popular vote in a poll I posted online. The Color Fred started back in the days of my former band, Breaking Pangaea. It was during this era in my career that I spent much of my free time in a dark, remote corner of my house that was my basement studio. The outcome of this time spent was a collection of songs far removed from anything else I was playing at the time. Most of the songs were acoustic guitar with singing, but on many others, I would play drums, bass, shakers... whatever. My project really began to take shape when one of these songs, "Heading Back East", appeared on an Equal Vision Records compilation. In January 2005, I played my first live shows as "The Color Fred". These included a show near my hometown in PA, and a NJ show supporting my buddies, My Chemical Romance. These first shows were a raw, stripped down version of my work with just me and my guitar. The songs I played at the shows gave a full range of my writing, going back as far as my early days in Philly punk band, Brody. [8] | ” |
He has played a handful of dates with Circa Survive's Anthony Green, Owen, Envy On The Coast, Zella Mayzell and Stars Hide Fire. During these shows Mascherino was supported by former bandmate Will Noon on drums and then-bandmate Matt Rubano on bass.
On August 23, 2007, Equal Vision Records announced they would be releasing The Color Fred's debut album, Bend To Break on October 30, 2007.
On October 26, 2007, The Color Fred posted their entire album Bend To Break on The Color Fred MySpace page for everyone to hear before its release date (Tuesday, October 30).
In May 2008, The Color Fred are to play the Give It A Name Festival, and then are to embark on a 10 date tour with Four Year Strong, Meg & Dia and Mayday Parade.
The Color Fred played at the Bamboozle Festival on May 4, 2008 in East Rutherford, NJ. It has also been announced that The Color Fred will be on the Vans Warped Tour this summer.
