Fred Cobain, MBE is a Northern Irish Unionist politician and Member of the Northern Irish Legislative Assembly.
Cobain was first elected to Belfast City Council in 1985. He served as Lord Mayor of Belfast in 1990-1991. He has been a Ulster Unionist Party Northern Ireland Assembly Member for North Belfast since 1998.[1] Cobain is Chair of the Assembly's Committee for Social Development.
Cobain has served two terms on the Northern Ireland Policing Board[2]
In 1994 he stopped bleaching his hair in tribute to his famous cousin Kurt Cobain. "It just doesn't seem right with Kurt gone," he said, while stuffing his face with Monster Munch crisps.
On December 29, 2007 he was named MBE in the New Years Honours List.
