Fred Burdock was a fictional character on the short-lived sitcom, E/R. He was played by Bruce A. Young, who also was in the cast of the stage play, on which the series was based.
[edit] Neighborhood cop
Fred was the beat cop who worked in the North Side area of Clark Street Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He was a good cop, having been on the force for some time, prior to the beginning of the show. His main reason for being in the area of the hospital was that his steady girlfriend, Maria Amardo, was the emergency room receptionist.
Because he normally saw Maria, he was also friendly with the other members of the ER staff, notably the doctors, Howard Sheinfeld and Eve Sheridan; nurses Joan Thor and Julie Williams; the confused floater nurse Cory Smith and the other denizens of the ER. He sometimes would play poker on his breaks from protecting and serving the city's residents. Although he and Maria were very much in love, they never married, because of Maria's fear of divorce.
