[edit] Frank Pennycook
I am a freelance web producer living in Salisbury, UK. I have particular interests in politics and environmental activism.
[edit] technical
In my work I strive to understand what my clients want their websites to do for them, and then I make it happen on the web. So I focus on the human use of technology as much as on the software and hardware. I build web applications and content-managed websites, mostly for environmental and not-for-profit organisations. I use free software, such as Apache and MySQL. My preferred operating system is Debian GNU/Linux.
Here is a link to my [business website].
[edit] politics
Politically, I categorise myself as left liberal and a supporter of green liberalism. I am a member of the UK Liberal Democrat Party and an activist in my local constituency party.
I support the abolition of the British monarchy, in order to make Britain a republic. I am concerned about threats to civil liberties. In the UK, for example, there are restrictions on demonstrations in Parliament Square and threats to freedom of speech such as the outlawing of the "glorification" of terrorism.
[edit] environment
I am committed to working and campaigning on environmental and sustainability issues. I have been actively involved with Friends of the Earth for ten years. I am coordinator of the local group in Salisbury. From 2000 until 2004 I was a member of staff (environmental data manager) and before that from 1995 I was active in the local group in Leeds, West Yorkshire. On Wikipedia I have begun contributing to the pages on environmental organizations and issues.
[edit] religion
I am an atheist with an unhealthy fascination for the bible and christian theology. I have taught myself some koine Greek so that I can read the New Testament and contemporary writings. As a celebrant for the British Humanist Association I conduct humanist funerals for families who wish to have a non-religious ceremony.
[edit] relaxing
I enjoy, to name a few things, baking my own bread, the British weather (except the dreadful hot summers!), the TV show Fonejacker and the music of Bohuslav Martinů.
