[edit] Nielsen / Popiel

Technically, Nielsen would not be the first Danish-born player in the NHL as Poul Popiel was born in Denmark but emigrated to Canada as a boy. Nielsen would become the first Danish-born player with his hockey-upbringing in Denmark. AEJ 00:47, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Nielsen is probably the first NHL-player who is both Danish-born and trained. This comparision is similar to Bob Nyström as first Swedish-born drafted by NHL in 1972 vs Per-Arne Alexandersson ( http://hockeydraftcentral.com/1974/74049.html ) as both Swedish-born and Swedish-trained drafted in 1974. Not to be confused with the Swedish-born/trained NHL-player Ulf Sterner which played a couple of games already in 1965. Bamsefar75 17:54, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
According to Popiel's stats he played 10 games with the Oilers in the NHL in the 1979-80 season. AEJ 23:59, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
