Talk:Frankliniella occidentalis

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Okay - I agree that this insect is a key pest and deserves its own wikilink, but I would suggest that citations for "significant cause of damage" be provided. In my experience, oviposition is not always as bad as scarring from constant feeding damage, and I believe the thrips' ability to vector tospovirus is by far its most threatening aspect. Would anyone like to add a section on the history of this pest as it expanded from the Western United States to the world? There are a few good review articles out there discussion precisely this point. Aderksen (talk) 16:46, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Anyone want to add citations for all these points? I'm not so certain that oviposition is the primary cause of damage, or the female-dominance of populations, but I'm not an expert. No matter what else, this article will eventually be deleted without some citational support, and we need this article. This thrips is a major North American crop pest, and is of increasing global concern as the greenhouse trade helps in its expansion. Aderksen (talk) 16:03, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
