Fraserburgh Football Club are a senior football club based in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire. They current playing in the Highland Football League in Scotland.

Fraserburgh's traditional rivals are the Scottish Football League team Peterhead. However, since Peterhead's election to the Scottish Football League, this rivalry has waned somewhat.

[edit] History

The club was formed in 1910 and play at Bellslea Park. Prior to 1910 they played as a select side made up of the best players from the local amateur league.

Fraserburgh's first ever match was an away tie in the Qualifying Cup against deadly rivals Peterhead. Fraserburgh were victorious by 3 goals to 1. In their very first season they went on to win the Aberdeenshire Cup, defeating Buckie Thistle at Pittodrie Stadium.

They were granted admission into the Highland Football League in 1921 and up until that time they competed in the Aberdeenshire Cup and Scottish Cup.

Fraserburgh's most famous victory was possibly the Scottish Cup on the 31st January 1959, where they defeated Dundee, one of the top clubs in Scotland at the time, 1-0 at Bellslea Park. This is widely regarded as one of the biggest giant killing shocks in the Scottish Cup.

Another one of Fraserburgh's most memorable games was a 10-0 victory away to local rivals Peterhead in the Highland League cup on August 14th 1974.

During 1984, Charlie Duncan was named new manager, after Brian McCann had quit due to work commitments. The past 23 years under Duncan has brought huge success to the club, after becoming champions for only the third time in the clubs history, winning the League cup for the first time in 47 years, the two Qualifying Cup wins in 1995/96 and 2006/07, as well as an Aberdeenshire cup and 5 Aberdeenshire Shield wins. The teams final positions in the League have also improved greatly since Duncans appointment.

In 2007, it was decided that the format for the Scottish Cup would be changed so that Non-League clubs would automatically enter in the first round of the competition, instead of earning the right to qualify through North and South Qualifying cups. Fraserburgh are now the pernament holders of the Qualifying cup (North), as they won the last competition at Princess Royal Park, Banff by 2 goals to 1 against Keith F.C. in November 2006.
