Franklin Area School District

Franklin Area School District (FASD) is a school system located in Franklin, Pennsylvania.[1]

Franklin Area High School, among others, sends some students between 10th and 12th grade to the Venango Technology Center in the mornings for various courses.[2]

The high school is located at 246 Pone Lane, Franklin, PA 16323. It currently has approximately 792 students. (Grades 9-12)[3]

Among other sporting accomplishments, Franklin Area High School has won two state basketball championships. In 2001 and 2006, the boys team, playing in PIAA class AAA district 10, defeated Allentown Central Catholic and Communications Tech (Philadelphia), respectively.[1]

Franklin Area High School was featured in We Belong, an award-winning short documentary film about tolerance and bigotry in rural schools.

The middle school is located on the second floor of the high school. It currently has approximately 373 students. (Grades 7-8)[3]

There are a total of 6 elementary schools serving the area.[3]

Located at 1276 Otter St, Franklin, PA 16323. It currently has approximately 269 students.[3]

Located at 196 Church St, P.O. Box 976, Polk, PA 16342. It currently has approximately 133 students.[3]

Located at 297 Pone Lane, Franklin, PA 16323 (across from the high school/middle school). It currently has approximately 262 students.[3]

Located at 310 7th St, Franklin, PA 16323. It currently has approximately 125 students.[3]

Located at 3823 Academy St, Utica, PA 16362. It currently has approximately 88 students.[3]

Located at 1819 Georgetown Rd, Harrisville, PA 16038. It currently has approximately 236 students.[3]

The Franklin Area School District is governed by a nine-member board. While the board is popularly elected, the board itself is headed by a president chosen by the board. Current members of the board are: Dr. David Andres, Constance Bailey (Vice-President), Catherine Bollinger, William Deal, David Greene, William Lucia, Patricia Moore (President), Colleen Scurry and Diane Thompson.[4]

The board solicitor is Joseph Liotta.4

The Superintendent of the district is Ronald Paranick, former principal at Franklin Area High School.[5]

The Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) "is a standards-based criterion-referenced assessment used to measure a student's attainment of the academic standards while also determing the degree to which school programs enable a student to attain proficieny of the standards".[6] The test is given annually to every Pennsylvania student in grades 3-8 and grade 11. All students are tested in math and reading, while students in grades 5,8, and 11 are also assessed in writing.
