The Frankfurt International School (FIS) is a private school in Oberursel, near Frankfurt am Main, Germany. It is situated at the last two stops of the U3 underground line(Waldlust and Hohemark). The main-campus is at the Waldlust stop and the primary school is at the Hohemark stop.
The FIS was founded in 1961. Since then it has been accredited by Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Also it has been accredited as a International Baccalaureate World School. The school's curriculum is the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program.
The school's mission statement, announced May 22, 2006, is stated as follows: Our mission is to be the leading culturally diverse and family-oriented international school with English as the principal language of instruction. We inspire young individuals to develop their intellect, creativity and character to grow into adaptable, socially responsible global citizens by ensuring a dynamic, 21st-century, inquiry-driven education of the highest standard. Predominantly international school teachers will ensure that the international families are catered for. This is to ensure a high standard of language and generally tuition.
FIS consists of three divisions. Primary School: First-Steps to 1st grade; Elemenary School: 2nd grade to 5th grade; Upper School: 6th grade to 12th grade.
All classes (with the exception of Foreign Languages) are taught in English. Foreign Languages taught are English, German, French, Korean, Japanese, Spanish and Dutch. Other languages are usually taken by students outside of the school; nevertheless, the school does offer the examination for other languages in the IB program. Other subjects taught are Economics, Business, History, and Geography, Psychology, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Math at 3 different levels, Computer Science, Visual Arts, Music and Theatre.
A new building has been constructed especially for the Arts and Science classes. Including an improved band room, a state-of-the-art drama department and new studios for visual arts. New science rooms, laboratories, and preparation rooms as well as a brand new Robotics Lab.
FIS has also developed a strong athletics program. Sports teams frequently travel throughout Europe. FIS athletics' teams are known as the "Frankfurt Warriors". Many different sports are offered, these including soccer, basketball, tennis, softball, baseball, volleyball, cross country, and track and field.
