All ships are currently stationed in Olpenitz at the Baltic Sea. M1062, M1066 and M1067 are part of the 3. Minensuchgeschwader (3. mine sweeper squadron). The others belonged to the 1. Minensuchgeschwader, that has been dissolved on December 21, 2005. Weiden is about to be sold to United Arab Emirates in 2006 and the other units will be transferred to the 3. and 5. Minensuchgeschwader. As the German Navy plans to close the naval base at Olpenitz, all ships will be relocated to Kiel and their squadrons incorporated into the Einsatzflottille 1 (Flotilla 1).
On 21st February 2007 Grömitz ran onto a reef in the Floro fjord while on tour in western Norway and remained stranded in a spectacular way. [1]
Frankenthal class mine hunters are named the A class in the Turkish Navy.
