The name Frankenstein commonly refers to various aspects of a 19th century novel written by Mary Shelley. These include:
- Frankenstein, the title of Mary Shelley's 1818 novel, subtitled The Modern Prometheus
- Victor Frankenstein, the title character of Shelley's novel
- Frankenstein's monster, the character that is the subject of Shelley's novel, often incorrectly referred to as just "Frankenstein"
- Castle Frankenstein, a 13th century hilltop castle about 5 km south of Darmstadt, Germany, speculated to be the eponym for Shelley's novel
Shelley's novel has since proved quite influential, and the name Frankenstein may also refer to various subjects related to popular media inspired by her work.
