Frank Jonen

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Frank Jonen is a German born visual effects artist with roots in print design and screen design.

Working with the web since 1994 and adopting CSS in 2002 he went unaffected by the dotcom crisis which mainly hit the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City.

Contracted by Linotype in 2001 Frank Jonen produced the very first commercial Photofont called Zapfino Ink in collaboration with Hermann Zapf. It drove the format to its limits and forced FontLab to add extra features to the format. The typeface was based on Zapf's original calligraphic sketches from 1945 and simulated how ink and paper form the shapes of a glyph when written with a fountain pen including the gradual breakup of the ink as the tip drains while writing.

While publishing some high ranking icon sets and desktop pictures on Apple.com the year marked the steady decline of his icon design business and it began to fade into what would be his true calling, visual effects work. Mainly matte painting, rotoscoping and color grading.

Working with 3 time Los Angeles Music Awards nominated Los Angeles based singer / songwriter Noush Skaugen since February of 2006, Jonen joined Noush Skaugen Entertainment as a full-time employee in October of 2006. At Noush Skaugen Entertainment, Jonen is in charge of Webdesign, Trailer production, visual effects and editing of video content, podcast production and promotion. Although his business card simply reads "Vendor Relations & Licensing".
