Frank Columb

Frank Columb (born in Cavan in October 1939) is a historian and novelist, best known as the author of Chicago May, Queen of the Blackmailers, The Shooting of More O'Ferrall, and The Lough Gowna Valley, and of the novel The Last of the Lake.

Columb grew up in Lough Gowna, Cavan. His research on his books is known to have been exhaustive, particularly on Chicago May, due to the international nature of her life and her use of an estimated thirty-six pseudonyms.

  • The Lough Gowna Valley is a study of an Irish Midland region, from its geological formation to the present. Surrounded by controversy, this book provoked a local outcry upon its release in 2002 due to its somewhat brutal appraisal of country life.
  • The Shooting of More O'Ferrall follows the illegal shooting by the IRA of Richard More O'Ferrall.
  • Chicago May, Queen of the Blackmailers is a biography of the notorious May Duignan.
