Franciszek Sołtanowicz

Franciszek Sołtanowicz (September 14, 1822, Vilnius—August 9, 1904, Naples) was a Polish poet and Italian General.
He was born in the Sołtaniszki Palace near Vilnius. His father Władysław Sołtanowicz was a very rich nobleman and his mother Anna Czartoryska was a daughter of one of the most important Polish politicians. He studied law at Oxford University. Then he emigrated to the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. He finished War School there. He was one of the best students and soon he became a Colonel. In 1854 he was promoted to General. After the Italian unification he was eight times Minister of War. In 1900 he retired completely and he ended his life in palace near Naples.
