From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Francine Descartes (baptised 7 August 1635 - September 1640) was René Descartes' daughter born to a domestic servant by the name of Helene in summer of 1635. Although Francine was referred to as an illegitimate child, her baptism was recorded in the record for legitimate births. René sometimes referred to her as his niece though he included her in his life. Francine died at the age of 5 of scarlet fever.
