The Frances E. Barnard Memorial Observatory (also known as the La Sierra University Observatory) is located in Riverside, California (behind La Sierra University) at the base of Mount Two-Bit. The observatory was named for Frances Evelyn Barnard, mother of Marion Cecil Barnard who donated the money necessary to build the observatory and purchase two telescopes (one of which is currently mounted to the concrete pier inside the building).
For the past several years, the observatory has been open to public on the first Friday of every month. Recently, a second "Open House" was created on the third Friday to allow alternating nights between full and new moons.
