Fran McCaffery (born May 23, 1959) is the current head of the men's basketball program at Siena. He previously was the head coach at Lehigh and UNC Greensboro.

McCaffery played college basketball for a season at Wake Forest before transferring to Penn. He began his college coaching career with a stint at Penn as an assistant coach, moving to Lehigh in 1983. When Lehigh promoted him to head coach in 1985, he was the youngest head coach in Division I. Following his career at Lehigh, he spent 11 years as an assistant at Notre Dame before becoming the head coach of UNC Greensboro in 1999.

He was hired by Siena on April 1, 2005 and has helped to revive the program. Over his coaching career, he has had a 100% graduation rate for players completing their NCAA eligibility.

From 1999 through 2005, McCaffery coached the UNC Greenboro Spartans in the Southern Conference. He had a 90-87 record through six seasons, and led the Spartans to the Southern Conference Championship and NCAA Tournament in 2001.

2005-2006

McCaffery guided Siena to a 15-13 despite being picked to finish last in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Siena had memorable wins over cross-town rival UAlbany 82-74 in overtime, as well as an 82-76 triumph at eventual MAAC champion Iona. The Saints clinched a first round bye in the MAAC tournament with a thrilling 98-92 double overtime victory over Niagara on senior day. Siena's season ended with a heartbreaking 63-62 loss to St. Peter's in the MAAC quarterfinals.

2006-2007

The Saints started slowly at 11-10 before winning 9 of 10 games to reach the MAAC championship game losing to Niagara 83-79. Siena finished at 20-12, winning 20 or more games for the fifth time in nine seasons. Once again Siena defeated UAlbany in another instant classic game 76-75 in double overtime. Siena was one of the youngest teams in the conference as five of their top eight players were underclassmen.

McCaffery has recruited the last three rookies of the years in their respected leagues. In his final year in UNC Greensboro, Kyle Hines won the Southern Conference's award. In 2005-2006, Kenny Hasbrouck captured it for the Saints. Last year Edwin Ubiles shared the award with Canisius' Frank Turner.

2007-2008

On November 17th McCaffery guided Siena to a 79-67 victory over #20 Stanford at the Times Union Center. The win was Siena's first over a ranked opponent since the 1989 NCAA tournament first round also against the Cardinal. Siena finished the regular at 19-10 and 13-5 good for a first place tie with Rider in the MAAC. The Saints defeated Manhattan, Loyola, and Rider on their way to winning the MAAC championship - their fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament. Siena, the 13th seed in the Midwest Region, soundly defeated #4 seed Vanderbilt 83-62 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Siena's season ended one game short of the sweet sixteen in an 84-72 loss to 12th seeded Villanova. Siena finished the season at 23-11 - the most wins for a Siena team since the 1999-2000 season and advanced to the round of 32 for the second time in school history (1989).
