[edit] Did you know nomination for History of Swindon

Howdy! Whilst browsing through Special:Newpages for potential articles to feature as part of the Did you know? section of the Main Page, I ran across the article History of Swindon, which you created. You can see the proposed blurb at Template talk:Did you know under the date heading corresponding to the creation of the article. I'm adding this notice here for two reasons: Firstly, if you feel the blurb I wrote is inaccurate or misrepresents the subject, feel free to propose a correction below it, or add a note to my talk page. Secondly, barring a large backlog or a significant problem cropping up with regards to the article, you should expect to see it on the Main Page within a week, so if you wish to add some polish to it before getting a sizable influx of eyeballs looking it over, you'll need to do so fairly soon. Regards and good luck, GeeJo (t)(c) • 19:52, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Updated DYK query On December 8, 2006, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article History of Swindon, which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Hello Foxhill, and thanks for this very comprehensive article. It was very interesting.....You've made a great start here - Happy editing, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 23:56, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] AfD Nomination: Swindon Town F.C. seasons

An editor has nominated the article Swindon Town F.C. seasons for deletion, under the Articles for deletion process. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the nomination (also see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on why the topic of the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome: participate in the discussion by editing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Swindon Town F.C. seasons. Add four tildes like this ˜˜˜˜ to sign your comments. You can also edit the article Swindon Town F.C. seasons during the discussion, but do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top of the article), this will not end the deletion debate. Jayden54Bot 18:47, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

I became of this article by stumbling accross its AfD pages, but, as Victor Kiam so nearly said, I liked it so much I copied it all to build Gillingham F.C. seasons May many more clubs build such a useful database: thanks for the framework. However: do not think that my gratitude extends to forgiving you or your team for the events of 1979 or 1987 :@) Kevin McE 19:22, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

I looked at your two league pages and they looked accurate and I will try and help keep them up to dat throughout the year.

As far as the template thing I 'made' I don't have the first clue as to how to do it properly so please feel free to hack it to bits and make it look good !!

I am not sure if I have replied in the right place and I apologise if I have got it wrong !!

Please look at the Rye_House_Rockets page. I have had to twice delete result updates from the page which in my opinion are not in Wikipedia's remit. Could you give me your opinion please. Thanks Hammer1980 21:18, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

I have made a page called Lakeside Hammers as the Srena Essex Hammers have changed their name. Please could you make the Arena Essex page point to the Lakeside one.

[edit] George Hunt

Hey there - as WP's resident Swindon Town fan I have a question which you might be best positioned to answer. I was about to create an article on the Arsenal footballer George Hunt, who played between 1937 and 1939 for Arsenal and was also a Spurs player. However I've found out there was also another separate George Hunt who played over 300 times for Swindon Town between 1948 and 1958 and I'm thinking of how to name the articles as a result. Arsenal's George Hunt played as an inside forward and Swindon's as a right-back (according to my PFA Player Records book) so I was thinking of naming the articles George Hunt (forward) and George Hunt (defender) respectively. I was wondering what your opinion would be on this? It'd be much appreciated Cheers. Qwghlm 15:25, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

I would be OK with that. I notice the same type of article title has been used to disambig amongst others Ian Wright.
Swindon's George Hunt was born in 1922, I mention this as I've seen some disambig pages listing by, for example, George Hunt (footballer born 1922), George Hunt (footballer born 19xx) such as Andy Gray and James Walker. This can be a bit unwieldy but is a second option if the original doesn't work out.
Of course this means I'll have to shift my arse and write the Hunt article now.. - Foxhill 15:55, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
Cheers. I hate disambiguating on birth date - people are more likely to remember a player for where he played and who he played for, not his year of birth. I've done the necessary moves and disambigs on the main George Hunt page and will get cracking on the Arsenal player's article in due course. Qwghlm 16:52, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Recent changes to Swindon Town F.C.

Hi Foxhill, I was wondering if you could have a look at the recent changes to Swindon Town F.C. made by 156.56.171.43 listed as grammatical corrections. I am of the opinion that the changes do not improve the article and in some cases are detrimental, but I can't really simply undo them. I thought that you, as a major contributor to the page, would be a suitable person to ask for advice on whether to revert some or all of the edit in question. Cheers. [edit] Re: New ad - filename collision

I just created an ad for WP:FOOTBALL and uploaded it as commons:Image:Qxz-ad63.gif however there seems to be an unused ad in wikispace at Image:Qxz-ad63.gif already. Should I rename and re-upload? Foxhill 14:45, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Tag the version you uploaded for deletion, and re-upload it as Image:Qxz-ad64.gif. Number 63 isn't in use because there's a sourcing issue that hasn't been settled yet and it may have to be deleted, but if it is, we can just fill the gap in later; the order of numbering doesn't matter – Gurch 17:04, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
I've re-uploaded it under the new name, you just need to tag the other one for deletion. Thanks – Gurch 17:09, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Done, thanks for your help! Foxhill 17:16, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Help needed re: Club template

Hi, I noticed that you created the Swindon Town F.C. club template, Template:Swindon Town F.C.. I've created a similar one for West Bromwich Albion F.C. but I can't get the templates (WBA, League founder members and Championship clubs) to join up neatly at the foot of the main article like the Swindon one does. If I put them all within the fb start / fb end tags, one box seems to go inside another rather than one on top of the other.

I've tried tweaking 'my' templates to match the Swindon and League One templates, but it was more a case of copying by example rather than actually knowing what I'm doing, and it doesn't seem to have made any difference anyway. If you have any time free, I'd be really grateful if you could have a quick look at the templates to see what I'm doing wrong. It's not a biggie in the grand scheme of things, it is a bit annoying though! Cheers. --Jameboy 11:42, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

There was a problem with {{Original Football League clubs}} which was causing it to not nest properly, I've hopefully fixed this and things should look ok now. Have a looksee Foxhill 12:31, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Speedway Template

Hello mate. Long time no speak. Another editor has adapted a football squad template for use on speedway articles. I know you are good at this kind of thing. Would you be able to make a basic one dedicated to speedway that I could adapt for each team. The one I have in mind is in use at Ben Wilson (speedway rider). Thanks Hammer1980 22:14, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

You are a star.. That is spot on. One thing I just thought of. Instead of 'Current Squad' can it ba changed so we can insert a year ie 2007 / 2006 /2005 ? Hammer1980 09:16, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Mate that's perfect. Thanks. I owe you one! Hammer1980 13:00, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Hello. Quick question, is there aw way of making the boxes 'stack' closer together. Look at this page Tai Woffinden ... I can't get the Rye House and Poole boxes together without the gap. Cheers Hammer1980 17:20, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Wiltshire_Fire_Service_HQ.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Wiltshire_Fire_Service_HQ.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 19:14, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Logo llangefni.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Logo llangefni.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:40, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
