What I Do
|
[edit] About me:
My name is Jake and I'm a junior at the University of Iowa. I'm majoring in applying to the interdepartmental studies program for a degree in military history. I came here from Muscatine, Iowa in the east/southeast part of Iowa on the Mississippi.
[edit] My username:
First of all, I do not hunt fox. This name goes back to the game SOCOM II that has a map called Foxhunt. For awhile, I led a clan called "Foxhunt Masters" that was one of the best clans at this map. However, my PS2 broke last year and I didn't play the game for about 6 months, my name got erased, and my clan disbanded. If you want to find me nowadays, look for E~2 Hawkeye (I joined a USAF clan for awhile, but restarted my Foxhunt clan - I didn't want to create a new name and lose my stats though, so I still play under that name, especially since I go to the U of Iowa whose mascot is the Hawkeye).
[edit] Classes I've taken:
Engineering:
- Engineering problem solving I & II
- Engineering math II, III & IV (multi-variable calculus, matrix algeba and differential equations respectively)
- Principles of chemistry
- Introductory physics I & II
- Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) first-year seminar
- CEE practice
- Fundamentals of engineering I & II (statics & electrical circuits)
- Natural environmental systems
- Mechanics of deformable bodies (elastostatics)
- Dynamics
- Thermodynamics
Other classes:
- Third-year French (took four years in high school)
- Into to politics
- Germany since 1914
- Speaking and Reading (rhetoric requirement)
- Issues: 20th century crisis (dealing with the Pacific theatre of world war 2)
Fall 2007 classes:
- Soil Mechanics
- Principles of Structural Engineering
- Fluid Mechanics
- Probability and Statistics for Engineering and Physics Students
- 20th Century Crisis: the Nazi Era
[edit] Other things I bring to the table:
- I have a passion for WWII and have a good general knowledge, but I have an even better knowledge of Third Reich, the Wehrmacht and the Luftwaffe and I continually try to learn more.
- My knowledge of the Luftwaffe has inspired me to learn more about the United States Air Force (USAF), so I have a good general knowledge of it.
- I am trying to learn more about military history in general - at this time I do not know enough to significantly contribute to wikipedia in this area, but once I have read more I hope to.
- Lately I have been watching a lot of The Simpsons episodes and going through Wikipedia to improve the articles about each episode - everything from word-mistakes in quotes to pointing out new cultural references. It may not be a major contribution, but hopefully it will make a good difference.
