Talk:Fox McCloud
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] There needs to be a picture.
Right now, the page has no image of Fox. I dislike the idea of this page always having to show the latest version of Fox. Brawl hasn't even been released yet, and we're already trying to post a pic from the game? I believe this page is intended to inform about the character, not the games the character is in. A pic of Fox from SF Adventures would do fine. —Preceding unsigned comment added by YamahaFreak (talk • contribs) 01:29, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- The Picture used was his art from Command, but it was deleted. Using the Brawl art is out of the question, so feel free to upload and use an Assault picture. Dengarde ► Complaints 02:23, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] New Picture?
Maybe the promotional picture from [1] should be used instead of the current one as it is higher in detail and is the most updated look for fox--MunchableSandwich 13:46, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
I agree with you and am going to do the new image right now. but i will edit out the background. Blumonkeyboy 23:15, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Opinion
Star Fox is AMAZING! Krystal needs to prove her worth to be good enough for the conquering hero of the Lylat System!
Krystal is already cool! --Fox Mccloud 18:17, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Got that right how old is Krystal and Fox in StarFox Command any way? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.54.154.153 (talk • contribs) .
[edit] F-Zero GX paintjob
I got a better look at the emblems in F-Zero GX. Is it really Fox McCloud? To me, the emblems look like caricatures of the F-Zero pilots, which would make the character Leon, not Fox McCloud. The resemblance is striking though =) --Wwwwolf 11:32, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Fox McCloud's Voice = SFX 64
I'm very certain it was Mike West who did Fox's voice. I first read this article and saw Charles M. listed. To make double sure, this weekend, I beat the game. Charles M. is not even listed in the credits at all. I do know several sites list Charles for Fox's voice, but this seems to be a snowball-effect mistake. I can assure you, that Fox's voice is not by Charles M. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.71.73.254 (talk • contribs) .
- Yeah, it is Mike West who does his voice. Thunderbrand 04:57, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Fox McCloud in Super Smash Bros. Melee
In the section of this article regarding Fox' appearance in Super Smash Bros. Melee, it was said that Fox is considered to be a bottom-tier character by the game community. However, in every SSBM tier I have seen, Fox is listed in the highest two tiers, so I corrected that. - DraugenCP
- It was probably some vandalism. Thunderbrand 18:18, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
I changed one sentence to note that Samus, not Fox, has the most abusable glitches in the game, but I guess this is opinion only. Samus certainly has more, that give her more abilities, but Fox's might be more abusable. Any thoughts? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ajphctp46 (talk • contribs) .
- Thats opinion. If you consider wave-dashing or shine spiking a glitch, then fox would have MORE, but Mewtwo is usually considered to have the most glitches. (Not abusive, but then neither samus or fox have abusive glitches anyways)Dolace Triade 13:40, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Main image
I think that the image of Fox at the top of the page should be changed, preferably to an image of Fox in Adventures. His look was drastically altered in Assault, and I think it would be better to post an image that shows Fox as he looks in most of the series. (for continuity reasons) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by YamahaFreak (talk • contribs) .
- Actually, I think the policy about images is that the most current available one is supposed to be shown at the top. So, his look from Command should actually be there. I don't think that you are supposed to change them just because it suits your taste. Thunderbrand 16:46, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
- It's not just MY taste, I was thinking of people who access this entry to learn about the character or series who have never really looked into it before. Just so they don't get the idea that Fox looks like that in every game in the franchise. He looks even more different in Command than he does here, so...you get the idea. Remember, these are just opinions. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.165.78.11 (talk • contribs) .
- So why the Adventures outfit? It's only been featured in one game, like his Assault costume. If anything, it gives people LESS of an idea of what Fox looks like because it does not look like something out of science fiction. I suggest either putting up a picture of Fox's official art from the original or his Command look, since Fox's outfits haven't deviated much from the ones shown in those games. Xubelox 07:01, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- The policy is to use images in a way that is informative to the reader and in a way that is in line with the fair use policy. The Command outfit is a throwback to the 64 version and is thus inappropriate and redundant to the purpose of depicting a different appearance in an informative manner. I've replaced the Assault version as appropriate.-ZeroTalk 14:02, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- I've also uploaded over that image with a cropped, edited version. -ZeroTalk 14:06, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- Note that as a thumb rule, you can't modify the "content" of the image, like cropping (see a counterexample at the Fair use page. You can resize an image down or reduce its quality, but not enhance it as it may violate the second and third policy points. Cropping a part of the promotional image may invalidate Fair use usage. I would revert back to the full image, even if it has comments made by the copyright owner. -- ReyBrujo 17:46, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- I've also uploaded over that image with a cropped, edited version. -ZeroTalk 14:06, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'm fully aware of the fair use policy. The content was not modified. The image was resized and redundant text was removed to make it suitible for encyclopedia inclusion and the infobox format. Did you look at the image in question..? -ZeroTalk 01:01, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, the old image had some words above it, while this one doesn't have it. That means the words were either deleted, or the image was cropped so that the words were left outside. That classifies as modified, at least for me. Note that the About section of the source site from where that image was picked states: But I will say this: I did not remove a watermark from a single piece of artwork or screenshot I have taken from somewhere else. [2] Which is what, apparently, you just did. -- ReyBrujo 01:24, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- It wasn't a watermark. It said "Fox McCloud" "Team STARFOX leader". That wasn't necessary. That's still fair use.-ZeroTalk 01:31, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- I did not write that disclaimer, so I he was referring to that as "watermark" as well. People is getting touchy with images, especially after articles have been forced to drop their images due either copyright complains or they did not fulfill all fair use requirements. At least, fix the source so that it points to the correct place, and specify that you have modified it removing those words. -- ReyBrujo 01:37, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Fair enough. -ZeroTalk 10:11, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- It's not just MY taste, I was thinking of people who access this entry to learn about the character or series who have never really looked into it before. Just so they don't get the idea that Fox looks like that in every game in the franchise. He looks even more different in Command than he does here, so...you get the idea. [edit] Fox's name
Does anyone else think it's important enough to note that Fox's name is not "Star Fox" or "Starfox"? This mistake is very common on gaming boards, and mentioning it here might help.
EDIT: Looks like one of the bad guys calls him "Star Fox" in Command, but Fox still refers to his team as Team Star Fox. Anyone else have something to say on this? --HongrelLongrelMongrelDongrel 05:04, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- There is nothing really to say on it. Thunderbrand 16:14, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, you're right. I guess it's just a minor thing at best, anyway. HongrelLongrelMongrelDongrel 17:59, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Revert
I reverted because 199.126.137.209 removed his appearance in the Weekend competition. -KLink/NiN10col/Neotendo123 14:26, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
What? User:Karrmann says that his nickname is Starfox. Not true. Revert? -KLink/NiN10col/Neotendo123 21:37, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- First of all, you don't need to report every single thing you revert. Second, Super Weekend is NOT a separate game. It is just an altered version of the original game. Instead of removing it entirely, I put it as Star Fox/Star Fox: Super Weekend (Scrolling shooter, 1993, SNES). We don't need to know the exact date this took place, especially when it isn't even made clear what the "super weekend" is in the article. 199.126.137.209 01:55, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
-
- First of all, way to bite the newcomers. Second of all, I was just making sure it was okay to revert, in case there was a discrepancy. -KLink/NiN10col/Neotendo123 00:18, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Cleanup
I'm gonna try and clean this article up a bit, and model it after the Solid Snake page or other CVG character ones that are GA class. There's way too much information here, and the story stuff I just removed is pretty much what's at the Assault page. And all the Command endings don't need to be mentioned since most of them are non-canon. Thunderbrand 00:36, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Smash Bros. Section
Well, I found a lot of things I disagreed with in the Smash Bros. section. First was the mention of the tactic of throwing the enemy down and then Shining them is not a very commonly used tactic because it is relatively easy to get out of. A much more common tactic is simply throwing them off the stage with a forward or back throw, and then running/jumping out behind them off the stage and shining them before they are able to recover, with plenty of ability to recover themselves considering him still potentially having his second jump and having his very good Fox Fire recovery. Second, Fox is not considered light, but quite the opposite. He, along with Falco, is considered a heavy character, and thusly being categorized into the section of characters known as "Fast-Fallers." In addition to being a fast-faller though, Fox and Falco have a somewhat different and unique way of falling and/or flying away after being hit compared to other fast-fallers such as Captain Falcon, which added their inclusion into the group "Space Animals;" this term refers only to Fox and Falco, but it is deemed worthy of being coined as terminology because it is often used when noting how easily combo-able both Fox and Falco are despite their innumerable strengths. That said, it leads me into my third gripe with that section, and that being that he is NOT easily KO'd/"sent" at low percentages. Fox's tolerance to damage and being sent is very high; it's not that Fox is easily KO'd at low percentages, but that due to his categorization as a space animal and a fast-faller, he is likely to be combo'd very aggressively by a large number of characters causing them to either deal damage to Fox and Falco very quickly or deliver a fatal blow extremely quickly (causing them to die at a low percentage). I am posting this here to simply fuel discussion as well as see what all of your thoughts were on this subject as far as editing this section on the main page. Thank you. AnujSuper9 09:07, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- I'm concerned about the competitive focus of this section. Any info about Fox's top-level strategies should be both sourced and understandable to non-players (avoiding the catchphrases of the community, outlining Fox's strengths only in general terms). And it should not be to the disclusion of non-competitive facts about the game, such as the nature of Fox's attacks (hand-to-hand, with martial arts-style kicks?) and aspects of his character that are obvious to anybody, like his speed. MaskedSheik 19:55, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
-
- Fox is the fifth lightest character in the game out of 25. So yea, Fox is considered light. The character's weight dosen't have anything to do with how fast they fall, but the distance they fly when they are hit. Some characters just fall faster than others.
[edit] Fox's enemies
There! I added it, but it looks like there is more to say about his enemies, so can you guys edit it a little?
- Wolf O'Donnell didn't return to his 64 version in Command. He is concerned about redeeming his team moreso than becoming "a generic thug".
[edit] Romance
Fara probably isn't a canon character (coinserning that she was only in the comics and not in the games). It's Krystal and Fox that's the 2nd real pairing (Falco and Katt, remember?). I mean, she's hot, he's a hero, and it's obvious they both love each other. Why not? I hope the true ending of Command ( I heard they were going to make another game with a true ending) will be something like the ones with them making up and going out for another adventure. Not like the two that shows Krystal leaving Fox. That's just wrong. Son of Jadoja 23:11, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:FoxMcCloud.jpg
Image:FoxMcCloud.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Source for Fox's voice actor in Brawl?
From the videos I've seen, it sounds like his voice is reused from Melee. Does anyone have a source saying his voice actor for Brawl is his Assault voice actor? Takuthehedgehog (talk) 17:00, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
His Japanese voice actor for Brawl is the same one used in Starfox Assault. He actually sounds quite a bit like Sonic's Japanese voice actor. I saw a video of those two fighting each other and sometimes confused one for the other! It appears Fox won't get an English voice actor for the US/European versions as the US trailer shows that Fox is using the same voices. His taunts and win poses will probably be changed. In any event, Fox's voices in Brawl are all new and not reused from Melee in any way. 72.81.128.2 (talk) 23:19, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Smash Bros Image
Dengarde claims that the Smash Bros image can't be used because the entire Video Games Wikiproject has decided against using non-canon images. It would be nice to have a link to this discussion. Canon is a fannish and in-universe concept which should have no bearing on article images.--Nydas(Talk) 09:30, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- Th discussion is here, though honestly I remember it being a little more decisive.
And yes, Canon is an in-universe concept, but it's far from fannish. This article is about Fox McCloud in the Starfox series. As such, the main image used in the Infobox should be the most canon portrayal of the character, not his design as a cameo in another game. If you wish to use his Brawl image, I have no objection to using it in the section "Super Smash Bros. series. For the Infobox, find an image from Command.
Oh, and my apologies if I don't reply to you next message. I'm moving on Saturday and won't have internet for a while. Dengarde ► Complaints 03:59, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
