Foxo Reardon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Foxo Reardon was the creator of the pantomime comic strip BOZO.

Francis Xavier Reardon was born on January 5, 1905. At the age of sixteen he became sports cartoonist for the Richmond Times Dispatch. His early work was signed "F. X. Reardon" but the periods after the initials had a somewhat circular form and were taken for "o" by some. It was through this circumstance that the name "Foxo" was born. Bozo was syndicated in the mid fifties. It was distributed through the Chicago Sun Times syndicate.

Foxo Reardon died of cancer on November 30, 1955. He was buried on December 3, the feast of the saint after whom he had been named.
