[edit] History
Instead of focusing on the issues, the show focuses on the media's coverage of the week's news among panellists from both the left (Hall and Gabler) and right (Pinkerton and Thomas) side of the United States political spectrum. Throughout the show, they discuss about how the media portrayed news stories of the previous week and how that affected the coverage of those news stories.
Similar to CNN's Reliable Sources, the program also discusses the overall condition of the media as a whole, including how the newspapers, 24-hour news channels, and the US national news networks are covering stories and what effect the new age of media is having upon them. The taped program airs every Saturday 6:30pm ET, with repeat airings at various times Saturday and Sunday. It has also aired at 2:30 pm ET Saturdays.
[edit] Departures
On February 2, 2008; Eric Burns said that Neal Gabler had left the show to work for PBS and that Jim Pinkerton had left the show to work for Mike Huckabee. Eric Burns' contract has not been renewed and will expire next spring. The show will be revamped with a new host and more of an eye on the evolving new media.[1] Burns reportedly said, "Fox News has told me that my contract will be terminated within the next 2 months, perhaps sooner. I was given no reason. It certainly has nothing to do with ratings; the last episode of Fox News Watch was the second highest-rated weekend show on on all 3 cable news networks and the program has almost been in the top 4 or 5. I have no theory, none, why they are getting rid of me. Although I heard rumors, I have never heard reasons."[2]
