Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is a 1962 drama film based on a novel by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, directed by Vincente Minnelli, and starring Glenn Ford, Ingrid Thulin, Charles Boyer, Lee J. Cobb, Paul Lukas, Yvette Mimieux, Karlheinz Böhm, and Paul Henreid. The film was released by MGM, and lost six million dollars at the box office, having been compared unfavorably to the famous 1921 silent film version starring Rudolph Valentino.
The director wanted the starring roles to be filled by Alain Delon and Romy Schneider, but both refused for commercial reasons. Glenn Ford and Ingrid Thulin were much older than the characters in the book. The period in which the plot is set was changed from World War I to World War II for the film. Although Ingrid Thulin spoke English well, she was dubbed by Angela Lansbury. The film is considerated a masterpiece in France, Argentina and Spain.
