By request of the user except as noted. Many of the users listed requested that their adminship be revoked either because they were no longer active at Wikipedia, because they were chiefly interested in editorial contributions rather than technical administration, or because they wished to focus on other Wikimedia projects. Some of the users listed voluntarily resigned their adminship status in recognition of the community's dissatisfaction with their activities; as such some of these cases, though nominally by user request, are not entirely voluntary. Former administrators who resigned their adminship in good standing may be reinstated at the discretion of any bureaucrat, while administrators who resigned under controversial circumstances must reapply for adminship by the usual means. Unless otherwise specified by the Arbitration committee, the determination of whether "controversial circumstances" existed is left to the discretion of the bureaucrats.

1 ^  While these former admins voluntarily relinquished adminship, the Arbitration Committee has determined that they must go through RfA and/or apply to the Committee if they want to be resysopped. In other cases, this is left to bureaucrat discretion.

2 ^  In these cases, while no Arbitration ruling has been made, a bureaucrat has declined resysopping in light of "controversial circumstances".

3 ^  These former admins have requested to be resysopped, but their RfA was unsuccessful.

5 ^  Some wikipedians feel that admins should retire after a period of at least 1 year, so they can concentrate on other matters. (And also to prevent the impression that admins are the people in charge.) While these people can be resysopped at any time, they are unlikely to do so voluntarily.
