[edit] AfD

Hmmm... where to begin.

AfD is a combination of determining the veracity of an article, examining how it sits with clear-cut policy, and nutting out how the community feels about more nebulous policy. It's also half fillibuster, half debate, and half popularity contest.

With regards to presetnation of facts and clear cut policy, contributions from very new contributors are always welcome. In fact, a single newbie with one solid evidentiary link can overpower ten established editors who say "delete not notable".

With regards to interpretation of policy, it's a bit different. The quandry is that it's impossible to tell in advance who intends to become a productive member of the community and who only has their own agend in mind. For this reason, very new accounts that do not add information to the debate tend to be discounted.

It's a bit hypocritical, but that's how it is. A recomendation by User:Geogre of the form "keep per nom" doesn't say anything accept that he agrees, but since he's been around for a while it will get counted. The same words with your sig after them almost certainly would not. It's not personal, it's just self-protection, and it is certain to at times offend.

Which is why it should be done nicely. It's better to treat ten actual disruptors gently than to offend one genuine contributor. I don't think it's been handled very well in this instance. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to use my talk page.

[edit] Careless

This edit is almost certain to get you blocked as a sockpuppet, I might add. - brenneman(t)(c) 04:40, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

  • How is that careless?, I made a mistake because I didn't realize the change in terms, so I fixed it. Forallah 05:14, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
You've mentioned above that you're on an open proxy. The switch from VfD to AfD happened a fair while ago. Your name has already been publicly associated with a group that is not very popular. You don't have any contributions to article space.
Someone with an itchy trigger finger and access to the IP sniffer will, I'd bet my hat, look at that edit and say, "This is clearly a long-term user who has created a new account for purposes of packing an AfD." Combined with the above facts, it wouldn't be a totally unreasonable conclusion to draw. Where did you see the acronym VfD is the question that will be asked.
I should add that that's not my opinion, I prefer to use less conjecture, but I've seen sockpuppet witchhunts start over much less. I follow the WP:AGF doctrine until it becomes impossible to do so. But things are already a little tense around here, so I'm just giving an alert.
