Wikipedia contributors from Fort Wayne include: :If you're from Fort Wayne, add your name here, click the ?, and write something about yourself.

This probably isn't a good idea, as all of our city and town articles would be filled with non-encyclopedia information. Everyone participating in Wikipedia, including folks from Fort Wayne, are encouraged to make their own personal page under their own names. -- Stephen Gilbert

I agree with Stephen, but there's a neat idea here that we should try to accomodate. I'd love to get together for a social beer with other participants from my area. This would be a lot of fun, and of course might strengthen the project by helping us to create a real community of sorts beyond the web community.

Where should such information be collected? --Jimbo Wales

Why not on the Wikipedians page? It would be simple to add your city and country to your name. -- Stephen Gilbert

Sorry, but I was confused as to where to go to create a personal page, and I missed the Wikipedians page. Either the userprefs page or the Wikipedia FAQ should explain how to create a personal page.

It's totally open how you want to create a personal page. Some people don't have any at all, although I think almost all the longer-term participants do. See Wikipedians for examples.

I really like the idea of having subpages (!) of Wikipedians devoted to people from particular areas (like Australia, as someone's already done). --Larry Sanger

Population

Which is the correct population figure - the 220,000 one given in the intro paragraph or the 205,000 one given in the "Demographics" section? Funnyhat 22:40, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

If you read the entire demographic section - including the last sentence, the answer is clear. DAVODD 02:59, Apr 21, 2005 (UTC)

Why is the pouplation of the county smaller than the metropolitan population of Fort Wayne?

Content

I'm pleased to see this filling out. I like the "Architecture of Note" section (I'm an architecture nut), but what's the deal with the 50 jillion "major" parks? I'm planning on visiting Fort Wayne and I thought I'd take some pics. What's best to represent the city? --Tysto 20:18, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

Lincoln Tower & city/county building is the traditional skyline familiar for many decades. Coliseum, Foster Park, the reconstructed Fort, North Side or South Side HS are architecturally distinctive. Some of the older downtown churches. Concordia seminary. alteripse 20:55, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

I added a couple of pics: the county courthouse and Lincoln Tower. --Tysto 04:13, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
And nice pics they are. alteripse 22:54, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

Consensus

Why the discussion about this page being held somewhere other than on this page?

It seems to me that the Wikipedia is a reference, not containing original research, and part of the point of the project is that every article is chock-full of links to material which may be of value to the reader. Is it relevant that United Connection consists of various airlines which aren't United Airlines, but who sell tickets at counters that say United Airlines, and whose flights plug into United Airlines flights? Is it not better to link to the schedules of the various carriers, rather than listing a schedule that will be outdated 48 hours after it's included?

But there wasn't any discussion about that here. In fact, there really wasn't any discussion anywhere. It was a "Gee, I don't think so," for unspecified reasons, and a "I thihk I agree", also for unspecified reasons, hidden on a page where visitors to Talk: Fort Wayne would have no reason to visit.

I'm willing to live with consensus, whatever it turns out to be, but not with secret cabals. This ain't no way to run a railroad. ClairSamoht 06:57, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

  • I do not understand what in-depth details about the business structure of United Connection (maybe it deserves its own article?) have in connection with Fort Wayne, Indiana. Davodd 01:03, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
The discussions weren't about the business structure of United Connection. They were about whether there should be links ON THIS PAGE to timetables for Amtrack and the various airlines as an indication as to level of service. ClairSamoht 18:21, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
