Were these named after the Civil War generals? --BDD 16:21, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Not really. I haven't seen a source characterize what they were named after, but a look at Category:Forrest Sherman class destroyers indicates to me that they were named after prominent military figures dating from the Revolutionary War (USS Barry (DD-933)) through Korea (USS Turner Joy (DD-951)).
