Talk:Ford Ivey

[edit] Dispute

Calling Ford the "Grandfather of LARP" is a bit of an exaggeration. The idea of a live action roleplaying game is not novel, though Ford and his collaborators developed their ideas without much (any?) help from predecessors in the field. LARPing is as simple an idea as playing "Cowboys and Indians". LARPs have existed for at least hundreds of years [1]. Though admittedly, the genre created by Ford and friends started a revolution in American gaming. The original NERO concept was formed by several collaborators, though he certainly played a very central role. --Gadlen 19:09, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Response

Although LARPs had been around before Ford Ivey and NERO, it was Ford's game that helped push the United States LARPing 'industry' out more into the mainstream. Just as Bill Gates did not invent the PC or even Windows, he is still considered the 'grandfather' of these items.
