My own vector of the former (unofficial) flag of the Isles of Orkney, Scotland, created using Inkscape. It is a red Nordic Cross on a yellow field in the form of the Cross of St Magnus. The flag resembled the flags of both the ancient Kalmar Union and Irish Province of Ulster to such a degree that the Lyon Court refused to grant this particular design official status. As a result, it remained the 'unofficial' flag of Orkney for many years.

In 2007 however, the inhabitants of Orkney held a ballot to determine an official design for a flag to represent the Islands of Orkney. The new flag was designed in consultation with the Lyon Court and was selected from a short-leet of 5 which were put to a ballot. For the winning design, see Flag of Orkney.
