Fort Zumwalt West High School, the third high school established in the Fort Zumwalt School District, is located in O'Fallon, Missouri. Opened for the 1998-1999 school year, it is currently the second largest high school in the St. Louis area and third largest high school in the state of Missouri, with an approximate enrollment of 2,539 students. The average daily attendance is nearly 97%. The building has been expanded once in the early 2000s, and currently has twenty trailer classrooms to help with the overflow.
The district's first high school was established in 1960 (now known as Fort Zumwalt North High School.[1] The second high school to be established in the district was South High.
At the beginning of the 2007 school year, Fort Zumwalt East High School was opened to freshman and sophomore students. This helped relieve North and South High of students, and is expected to eventually balance the district's high schools enrollment.
The school's ACT scores averaged 21.9 in 2006, with 75.3% of graduates taking them. The graduation rate remains around 91%, with 42% attending four year college/university, and 32% attending two year college/university. The dropout rate is 1.9%, as opposed to 4.0% at the state level.
With a little more than 100 teachers, around 63% have a master's degree or higher, and more than 96% have regular teaching certificates. They average 9.3 years of teaching experience. There is an average of 25 students per classroom.
