Fort Valley is a city located in Peach County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 8,005, down from about 12,000 in the 1950s. The city is the county seat of Peach County[3].
Fort Valley is the corporate headquarters of the Blue Bird Corporation, a large manufacturer of buses. The city is also home to Fort Valley State University, a Historically Black College and University.
The city is in the Macon metropolitan area.

Fort Valley is located at 32°33'12" North, 83°53'28" West (32.553392, -83.890996)[4].
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.3 square miles (13.6 km²), of which, 5.3 square miles (13.6 km²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there are 8,005 people, 3,050 households, and 1,878 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,519.5 people per square mile (586.5/km²). There are 3,303 housing units at an average density of 627.0/sq mi (242.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city is 22.10% White, 74.65% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.85% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. 4.37% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,050 households out of which 30.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 25.9% are married couples living together, 30.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.4% are non-families. 29.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 3.20.
In the city the population is spread out with 27.3% under the age of 18, 16.9% from 18 to 24, 26.0% from 25 to 44, 18.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 28 years. For every 100 females there are 86.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 81.8 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $19,646, and the median income for a family is $24,206. Males have a median income of $27,016 versus $20,110 for females. The per capita income for the city is $10,815. 37.7% of the population and 31.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 44.3% of those under the age of 18 and 17.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
