Fort Belan
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fort Belan is a Grade I Listed building in north Wales, at the south-western end of the Menai Strait opposite Abermenai Point, on the coast of Gwynedd.
This coastal fortification in the parish of Llanwnda was built in 1775 by Thomas Wynn, then MP for Caernarfonshire and later to become Lord Newborough. He was worried about the vulnerability of Britain’s coastline to attack, particularly because of the on-going American War of Independence.
