[edit] Location
The Forest of Fear 2007 was set up on a trail behind the Decatur Firehouse in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. The trail had been used for previous haunted walks held by the Decatur Firehouse. Contrary to popular belief, the haunted walk was privately owned and funded rather than run by the Decatur Firehouse.
[edit] Scenes
The Forest of Fear had many scenes it's premier year. Some of the more famous scenes include Lucifer's Cemetery, the strobe lighted Zombie Scene, Bonjo the Clown, and the infamous Butcher Shop scene (which was used before in many of the haunted attractions that owner Clint Smarty participated in). In addition, there was an autopsy/crematory scene, a crypt scene, a Texas Chainsaw Massacre scene, a werewolf scene and a mad scientist scene. Many scenes featured very realistic props including a brain in a jar that was used on the hit TV show Bones. Some of the props had been won in horror festivals and conferences by the owners and many are considered very expensive. State-of-the-art effects were used including blacklight cannons and blinding strobe lights. In the Bonjo the clown scene, prosthetic face and special f/x makeup was used rather than a mask.
[edit] Special Events
The 2007 incarnation of the Forest of Fear had several special events. The first was a visitation by underground horror film star April "Chainsaw Sally" Burril, who is known for her film Chainsaw Sally. Also featured was a palm reader and a raffle for prizes. There was to be a "horror fashion show" but it was cancelled due to lack of participation.
[edit] Reception
The Forest of Fear 2007 had a decent reception. Although it's location may cause travel problems, the turn out was very good for the first year. All money made from the event was used to pay for use of the Decatur Firehouse's property and for next year's haunted walk.
[edit] Owners and Participants
The owners and producers of the Forest of Fear are Clint Smarty, Ben Dell, and Nick McKnight. Some of the participants were Scott Suloff, Dyson Treaster, Matt Simonetti and many others.Overall, it is estimated that at least 40 people including actors, guides, ticket booth operators and special guests participated in the Forest of Fear.
[edit] Film
Forest of Fear is also involved in independent film. They are currently working on a project dubbed "Fear of Life". Producer Ben Dell owns a film company named "Blood Productions", while Nick McKnight owns a film company named "NME Productions". Both of these companies are splintered off from Forest of Fear films.
