[edit] History

Forest Lake College was established in 1994 with 66 students. The College's enrollment has expanded to over 1,400 students.

[edit] Curriculum

Forest Lake College's curriculum includes individualized training in the academic, cultural, social, spiritual and physical domains. Forest Lake College's academic curriculum offers a range of science, humanities and vocational subjects.

Forest Lake College believes there are three discrete stages of a child's education:-

  1. the foundation studies of early childhood,
  2. the middle years of development and growth, and
  3. the final years of preparation for adult life.

The College structure reflects these stages of individual development, rather than the traditional Primary and Secondary Schooling distinction.[1]

[edit] Mandarin Chinese

Mandarin Chinese is the College's official Language Other Than English (LOTE) and is taught in all classes from Prep (pre-school) through to Year Eight and may be undertaken as an elective subject from Year Nine through to Year Twelve.

[edit] Music

All Forest Lake College students from Prep (pre-school) onwards learn to play an orchestral musical instrument. As part of the core curriculum, all students receive instruction from String, Brass, Percussion or Woodwind specialist music teachers during classroom time.

Such instruments include, air guitar as well as rubber band guitar, spoons, trash can lids and scraping a stick accross the ground. The aim is to teach the students to get into that alternate music range notibly seen in acts such as Blue Man Group and Stomp (dance troupe). A select few students, preferably from the Juniour school will be required to preform in various competitions winning cash prizes which will go into Forest Lake College Admin.

[edit] Other Activities

The College offers activities in cultural areas, as well as recreational and leisure activities such as public speaking, computer clubs and chess clubs. Students take part in debating competitions with other schools, fielding teams in the Queensland Debating Union schools' competition. Students are actively encouraged to participate in experimental studies, such as Communism, Fascism, and Scientology.

Paranormal studies are often facilitated at Forest Lake College, such as summoning spirits and deceased relatives. These studies have worked to varying degrees of success. In such ceremonies, lambs from the Land & Culture Studies classes are sacrificed. Devil worship sessions are carried out occassionally, though they are not encouraged due to the Billison Enquiry in to the school in 2003.
