The Netherlands Antilles is an autonomous entity within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and consists of the following five islands: Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Saint Eustatius and Saint Martin.

The Charter of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (in Dutch: Statuut) defines the association between the Netherlands, the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. The overseas territories are autonomous, although there are a limited number of affairs which are handled by the Kingdom as a whole. These "Kingdom affairs" include foreign relations, among other things.
