From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For My Broken Heart was the first album recorded after an airplane crash which killed most of the members of Reba McEntire's touring band. The album is, as McEntire states in the album's notes, "a form of healing for all our broken hearts" and the songs were chosen to that effect. The album broke ground for female artists in country music, as it was the first album recorded by a female in country music to be certified double-platium (selling 2 million copies) by the RIAA. The title track was initially intended to be a duet (supposedly with Clint Black), but after the plane crash of 1991 Reba recorded the song as a solo recording. The second single, "Is There Life Out There" caused controversy when the video for the song was almost banned by CMT for excessive dialogue. The video inspired so many women to return to school that Reba was recognized by then President George H.W. Bush's Secretary of Education, Tennesseean Lamar Alexander. In 2006, the album was ranked #30 in CMT's 40 Greatest Albums in Country Music. It became her highest charting album on The Billboard 200 at that time, peaking at #13. It is also McEntire's biggest-selling studio album - selling more than 4 million copies as of early 2007.
