For Gedda is the seventeenth episode in the eighth season of the popular American crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, which is set in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

[edit] Plot

During a funeral, the coffin breaks while being carried and two bodies drop out. The double-decker coffin is referred to as a traditional Mob device for disposing of murder victims. The extra body is recognized as a private investigator by Warrick Brown, who seems upset by the discovery.

Grissom learns that the P.I. was a former cop, dismissed for corruption. He and Nick go to his office and find it suspiciously clean, as is his car. They later discover that Warrick had hired the P.I. to investigate the infamous Las Vegas gangster, Lou Gedda, whom Warrick blamed for the death of Joanna Cromsky, aka Candy (see "Cockroaches" and "Lying Down With Dogs").

Meanwhile Warrick receives a phone call to which he responds angrily, overheard by Hodges. Warrick later wakes up in a pool of blood draining from Gedda's corpse. He has a gap in his memory and is uncertain of his own innocence, especially as he is holding his handgun. He is arrested and accused of murdering Gedda while the gangster was handcuffed in the notorious barber's chair.

Internal Affairs takes over the case investigation including forensics. Working independently, the CSI team continues its investigation of the P.I.'s death, assuming the two cases to be linked, and uncovers evidence (including an unusual blood-splatter pattern on Warrick's shirt) that exonerates Warrick and leads to the arrest of a mole within the police department: the actual trigger-man who killed the gangster and framed Warrick. However, the CSI team suspects that there is a higher-ranking mole lurking within the department.

Warrick is released from custody and joins his CSI friends for merriment at a local watering hole. After saying his goodnights to his friends and picking up their bar tab, Warrick returns alone to his car parked in a dark alleyway where Undersheriff McKeen approaches him and engages him in conversation. Warrick assures the Undersheriff that he and the team will not rest until they find the higher-ranking mole. The Undersheriff catches Warrick with his guard down, shooting Warrick in the neck and chest. The Undersheriff cleans the gun and tosses it into Warrick's car, leaving Warrick for dead.
