Football in Western Australia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the Australian state of Western Australia (WA), the word football usually refers to Australian rules football. However, soccer is also sometimes known simply as "football".
[edit] Australian rules
Australian rules in WA is overseen by the State government's Western Australian Football Commission (WAFC). It controls the two WA-based teams in the Australian Football League, the Fremantle Football Club and the West Coast Eagles. The main local competition is the West Australian Football League, which was founded in 1885, as the West Australian Football Association.
[edit] Football (soccer)
Football (soccer) in WA is controlled by Football West. The Perth Glory represents the state in the A-League. The first football organisation was the Western Australian British Football Association, established in 1896. Football West was formed in 2004. That organisation is responsible for organising the West Australian domestic competition and junior teams within that state.
